Christmas Lights Spectacular

This year, the Belvin Family of Tannersville is hosting their Christmas lights spectacular at their home located at 464 Cherry Lane Rd in East Stroudsburg. All donations collected will go to benefit the United Way of Monroe County and the many non-profits they support. The lights are on display every evening through January 1. See the attached flyer for details! A special thank you to Jerrod Belvin and his family for their generosity this Christmas season!

December Episode of Legislative Report

December 2016 - Summit School of the Poconos

In my December episode of Legislative Report, I interview Nicole Elwood and Jennifer Olson and tour the Summit School of the Poconos, a new private school in Monroe County with a project-based curriculum known as STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The Summit believes learning is not only measured by the knowledge an individual possesses, but by a capability to apply it, and the learning process should be valued as much as the results.

PennDOT Vehicle Registration Stickers

Beginning December 31, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will no longer issue vehicle registration stickers. While stickers will no longer be required, you will still need to renew your vehicle registration annually and present the card when requested by police and at safety inspections. Police will be able to verify registration electronically. Eliminating the stickers is expected to save taxpayers more than $1 million each year. Learn more here.

LIHEAP Applications Open to Eligible Residents

Pennsylvania’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is taking applications through March 31, 2017 for home heating assistance to qualifying low- and fixed-income individuals and families, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

Income eligibility for heating assistance for a household of one is $17,820, increasing incrementally with a family of ten’s income eligibility set at $73,815. Each additional person over ten raises the limit by $6,240.

Please contact my office if you need assistance completing an application. All required documents should be brought with you in order to verify accurate information. You can also apply online or download an application through COMPASS, Pennsylvania’s secure website for many health and human service programs. Learn more here.

Read Across Monroe

I will be collecting books in my Tannersville District office for Read Across Monroe. Please donate new or gently used books for children age 12 and younger at 2989 Route 611, Suite 103, Tannersville, PA 18372. More than 5,000 books have already been collected, but your donation will truly help many children.

Around the 40th District

Senator Scavello Honored Four Accomplished Scout Leaders

I was pleased to honor four outstanding Scout leaders of Troop 352 who, during their numerous years of continued guidance, have helped several dozen scouts reach the rank of Eagle Scout. Their commitment to instilling the Scout Law and Oath and providing necessary experiences for an Eagle Scout is truly commendable. During the meeting honoring these leaders, the impact on individuals truly shined throughout the ceremony. I thank you all for all that you have done.

Senator Scavello Visits East Stroudsburg AP Government Students

Congratulations on a successful semester to the students in East Stroudsburg's AP Government course. Recently, I had the opportunity to present to students and discuss important issues with them. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing our future leaders begin being active in our community and their careers.

Stroudsburg Independent Orchestra Brings Christmas Spirit to the Capitol

I was pleased to see our talented musicians of the Stroudsburg Independent Orchestra perform in the Pennsylvania State Capitol this week. Congratulations on a wonderful performance and thank you for bringing the holiday spirit from the 40th Senate District!
