Feb. 23: Scavello to Host Tdap Vaccine Clinic
On February 23 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., I will be hosting a Tdap Clinic in partnership with the PA Department of Health at my Pen Argyl District Office (2 N. Robinson Ave, Pen Argyl, PA).
Tdap is a combination booster vaccine that inoculates against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). The vaccine will be administered at no cost if you are underinsured (your insurance does not cover the vaccine) or uninsured (you have no insurance).

Monroe County Housing Rehabilitation Program
Monroe County received a Commonwealth grant to aid low-income homeowners in minor rehabilitation of their homes located in Tunkhannock Township and the Boroughs of Mount Pocono and Delaware Water Gap.

Funding for this program is limited and requests for assistance are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Further questions can be directed to the Redevelopment Authority of Monroe at 570-421-4300.
Bills Passed by the Senate in 2017
Senate Bill 261 eliminates the statute of limitations for child sex abuse crimes and gives victims additional time to file civil actions against their abuser. Currently, victims have until age 30 to file a civil claim. Senate Bill 261 would set the deadline at 50 years of age.
Senate Bill 181 establishes a performance-based budget component.
Senate Bill 241 prohibits sexual discrimination in employee pay rates.
Senate Resolution 6 calls for an updated version of the comprehensive study of fire and EMS issues completed in 2004.
Senate Bill 166 ensures that political campaign funds are not collected by public sector unions through government-provided mechanisms with taxpayer resources.
Senate Bill 170 requires comprehensive reform measures at the Delaware River Port Authority.
Senate Bill 3 reduces the maximum gestational age for legal abortions from 24 to 20 weeks and prohibits dismemberment abortion.
Senate Bill 10 holds a “municipality of refuge” accountable for not enforcing state and federal laws relating to immigration.
Senate Bill 138 gives royalty interest owners the opportunity to inspect records of the gas company to verify proper payment. It also requires that proceeds from production of oil and gas be paid within 90 days unless otherwise stated in the lease.
Senate Bill 139 prohibits gas companies from retaliating against a royalty owner by terminating the lease agreement or ceasing development simply because the landowner questions the accuracy of the royalty payments.
2017 Tax Season Deadline Extended
April 15 falls on a Saturday in 2017 and is followed by Emancipation Day on Monday, April 17, thereby pushing the deadline to file tax returns and submit payments to Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
Don’t let the extension delay your refund. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue provides a list of frequently asked questions and direct links to answers to your questions for tax year 2016.

Combat Lyme Disease, now a year around concern, with a quick daily tick check at bath or shower time. Careful removal during the first 24 hours you become a host to a deer tick will likely prevent infection.
The germs spread from the tick’s salivary glands and are spit into its victim within 24 hours of the initial bite. One bite can leave the deer tick’s victim with no or barely discernible symptoms. Another victim can suffer a lifetime of pain and suffering from infection with the bacteria.

This week I had the opportunity to speak to residents at Shawnee Ridge retirement community in East Stroudsburg regarding state and local issues affecting seniors. Thank you to all in attendance.
It was an honor this week to present five $200 scholarships to dancers at the McElligott School of Irish Dance. Included in the photo are Eryn Duffy, Emily Farley, Reilly Glynn, Courtney Piquette, and Ashlyn Sparks. Congratulations and best wishes as you continue in your endeavors.
I had a wonderful visit to Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home this week, and enjoyed discussing state and local issues with seniors. Thank you to all who attended.
